Neighborhood Yard Sale- Action Items:

  • Marlena: Will follow up with SW Solutions

  • Mary Clare: Will check to see if Clark Park is available

NEW BUSINESS

City of Detroit: District Six greenway is not finished yet

  • Gordie Howe is building protected bike lanes

  • Cambell is not going to look like it does today

  • Heard again and again, don’t put the path on Vernor.

  • Widening Street by Yorba Hotel if people and hotel are interested.

  • Going to buffer the bike lanes in some type of way.

NEIGHBORHOOD

– Myett was diagnosed with breast cancer; why are you moving trucks and cutting into nature?

– Want to move the trucks away from the greenway

– City bought a railroad and turned it into a walking space

– Deb: I don’t want it to go through Clark Park

– Ideal location is that it should follow W. Jefferson down Riverside Park and on the river. Should not be on Fort St. whatsoever.

– Be very careful with the design

– Can’t violate the ADA

– Could incorporate the historic lights

– Phil Clark: Congratulations to the group, the route on Lafayette is the least intrusive. It gives people who don’t live here a view of the neighborhood.

– Partnered with the Detroit Riverfront to raise funds

– For now, W Grand will stay the way it is.

– Want to get other cyclists involved in future conversations

– Marlena: Add that potential reconfiguration of the bike line- city encouraged Marlena and Zeb to email possible key bike lanes.

– Mike: I do not like it going on Clark, with traffic wish it went all the way through W. Jefferson.

– Maybe even a new coat of paint for bike lanes would be healthy

– Have to have a proposal by next month

– Community benefits have to include Bike Lanes

– I asked a series of questions about what people preferred

– It looks like most people voted for the Clark options with bike lanes

– Want to minimize the impact on the park

COMMS COMMITTEE

Updating website

Putting a calendar on the website

Social media accounts

History + Meeting minutes

Bio’s of board

Newsletter, published and printed

Next meeting, have a mockup of the proposed website

At this point, the types of information we want to boost include:

– a comprehensive calendar for neighborhood events and events that may affect us, such as district planning

– a contractor list

– a resource list for residents with information about practical needs, like trash days, numbers for utilities, contact info for community officers, etc

– an archive of meeting minutes

– information about the area’s history and featuring specific houses

– information about our assets – community garden, park, etc

– board bio and contact page

– association documents (articles, bylaws, et.)

– Gallery

To reach as many neighbors as we can, we want to employ at least these means and modes:

– build-up and maintain our website to become feature and content-rich

– publish a newsletter

– manage dynamic content with more frequent social media engagement – Twitter, Insta, Meta, etc

– change the existing email distribution service to a platform that has more robustness and can be integrated with our other modes

– active “welcome wagon” which introduces the neighborhood to new residents

WAYS YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE

– Sign-up to be a “block captain” who passes out flyers or newsletters to your block (a small time commitment when needed) and can act as a welcome liaison

– Write articles for the newsletter

– Maintain a social media account

– Take and submit photos of the neighborhood and area

– Become a web content editor or forum moderator

– Anyone with backup web skills may also be needed down the road 😉
