Hubbard Farms Neighborhood Association

Tuesday, 6:30 meeting

  1. Introductions
    1. Peter Landon, Monte Martinez, Chris deRoos (new), Amy Amador, Anthony Benavides, Ryan Marshall (new), Elizabeth Luther, Deb Sumner (comments).  Absent: Rachel P. & Adriana Z.
  1. LISC Magnets – $500 grant to fund magnets for outreach. LISC said they sent the check to Rachel’s house, but we can’t find.
    1. Christina deRoos checking to see if Meg is still open to doing the refrigerator do the magnet design
    2. Eliz will ask LISC to cancel the check and re-send the $$
    3. Amy will check with Rachel to see if she needs support re: magnet language
  1. Invest Detroit – Mike Smith Request
    1. EL describes Invest Detroit to group. Adding some language from past communication.
    2. Christina – balance at that table might be strange. What if someone from Hubbard Farms facilitate? Do we have a mission or something similar that can help guide our participation with a table like this? Will SW Solutions still be involved in the development?
    3. Ryan – visual mapping could be a good process (how does this all fit together)?
      1. For Deb, historic preservation is key.  Historic Preservation is also a key mission within HFNA’s Articles of Incorp.  Deb also stated she is not opposed to new development but if we need to prioritize…
    4. EL – there are other options for prioritization: LISC’s Planning Process, Vista Project
    5. Christina and others – If there is something going forward, there needs to be a longer process with the community (Broderick/Murray)
    6. ID needs the neighborhood not to object to what they’re doing . . .
    7. Next steps:
      1. EL will ask MS to include Christina deRoos in discussion, along with a representative from the City of Detroit (meet for coffee first).  I want to recommend that the City Rep. actually be a City Planner such as Steve Lewis or Karen Gage or _______.   I am still coordinating with Steve Lewis to meet on the “truck re-routing concerns in HF & surrounding SWD streets” and Ryan M. & Jinny Z. have agreed to meet with Lewis also.
      2. Ask MS to participate in November meeting
      3. EL will send out list(s) of priorities . . .
      4. Christina deRoos can reach out to see if there’s a good survey available for n’hood priorities

  1. Bylaws Draft finished at August Meeting, now being reviewed by Samira (Attorney at MRC) and EL sent a link to the HF List-Serve & will send to the HF Next Door for HF residents input.
  1. October 18th BBQ
  1. 5:30 – 7:30pm at Clark Park Recreation Center (outside weather permitting by ice rink); program to be held at 6:30pm to announce launching of HFNA
  2. Roles and responsibilities were assigned (see attached)
  3. Residents would be invited to sign up for membership at the BBQ noting areas of interest and to complete a survey regarding land use.
  4. Dues waived for the first year; further discussion will be held to define dues for subsequent years (set fee, sliding scale, volunteer hours, etc.)
  5. Donations will be accepted; Clark Park Coalition will serve as the fiduciary.
  6. Invitations to be sent to neighborhood city representatives – Council Member Raquel Castañeda- Lopez (HF resident), Rico Razo, and Ninfa Cancel

    1. Staggered terms were desired for the first board.
    2. The following terms were proposed and accepted without dissent:

o   One year term: Amy Amador, Anthony Benavides, Peter Landon, Monte Martinez, and Deb Sumner

o   Two year term: Christina deRoos, Elizabeth Luther, Ryan Marshall, Rachel Perschetz, and Adriana Zuniga

  1. Agenda Items for Next Meeting / Chair

o   Discussion of how HFNA gets information from neighborhood residents

o   Discussion of HFNA values / Board assessment

o   Update on Invest Detroit Working Group
